6/15/2007

On to the first post in a few days. Just got back to civilization after a few more nights of good camping. Very nice campground, cheap bundles of wood, and a good grill to cook steaks up on. Nothing like a wood cooked steak, gotta say, its been years since I last had one, and it was as good as I remembered. Follow that with some great burgers the next night, and life is good.

The highlight of the past few days has got to be the trip to Bend, OR. Outside of a confusing search for the Nike outlet (why do you have a business 97 and a route 97, are they trying to confuse people who aren’t from the area?), it was a great way to spend the day. While there, got to a sports bar called Sidelines. Nice place, televisions all over the walls. On top of that, there was a good New England feel to it, with a Patriots flag, autographed pictures of Brady and Bruschi, and on top of it all, we got to catch the Sox/Rockies game on Thursday. Sure Beckett got his first loss of the season, giving up a few bombs in the process, but it was a fix for a few Boston sports junkies who hadn’t been able to catch a game since arriving on the Left Coast. Got a few beers in while there as well, which was a nice change of pace as I haven’t been allowing myself much of that pleasure as I’m no longer a carefree college student, and I should take this time to get adjusted to what it will be like to no longer drink whenever the mood strikes me(or anyone brings up the topic).

When this morning rolled around, Dad’s arthritis flared up in his wrist again. We decided it was best not to push his wrist on the bike. This meant a second consecutive day off to enjoy what Oregon has to offer. After consulting a local waitress, it was decided that a casino would be a good way to spend a free day. After about an hour drive, we arrived at the Warm Springs Native American reserve. Upon arriving and settling in with a nice steam and whirlpool, it was time to hit the casino. Forty dollars later, it was time to take a break from gambling and go to the seafood buffet. In retrospect, should have kind of sketched me out, because of the fact that it was all seafood, not all that hot, and in buffet form, not exactly reassuring when mulled over at a later time when you have to leave the casino on the second time around (after losing another quick ten dollars I don’t have) because you aren’t feeling so hot. My advice, stay away from the warm seafood buffets in the future, learn from my mistakes. All in all, its time to get back to the pool and relax without losing more hard earned money, hope life is treating you well.
