A few more random thoughts from the journey…
As we made our way to the campsite on Sunday night, we stopped into a small town in on the way to get better directions, as our map of Idaho has a bad habit of not naming the roads off of major routes. In the process, on of the farmers at the bar warned us that we had to watch out for Rattlesnakes at the campsite. Yep, Rattlesnakes, the kind that are supposedly very poisonous. Anyways, upon arrival, we find that most of the sites are overgrown, causing concern on two different fronts. One, do people avoid mowing this state campsite on purpose, because all the others we’ve been to up to now have been fairly well maintained. Two, wouldn’t that make it that much easier for the rattlesnakes to sneak up on you when you step outside of the tent in the middle of the night? Now ask yourselves, would you be tenting there ever? Yeah, us neither, deciding to drive all the way back to Pocatello to stay in a nice comfortable motel 6.
In the process of going back to Pocatello, we decided to take in Live Free or Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis and the Apple kid. Keeping in mind that after seeing the preview you know that there would be several disconnects from reality, I enjoyed it. A solid mix of some good humor and absurd action sequences, well worth the money to sit in a theater to have the experience. The Apple kid was even decent, although the connection to computers could have helped out in that regard. The only question that ran across my mind is what does the writer of this series have against the French? Am I thinking of the wrong movies, or were the first two movies also filled with evil and somehow badass Frenchman. It was worth seeing though, although I would see Transformers before I paid to see that.
As we make our way out of Idaho, a couple of things pop into my head. What is the deal with spelling things like Campsite, Country, etc. with Ks? Does it have some kind of connection to the Confederate flag that I saw proudly flying at the RV park today(shocker, I know)? Maybe its just me being from Mass, but this just doesn’t fly in my opinion. Granted, Idaho didn’t have too much to offer in regards to potential spots that fit what I’m looking for in a city, but that just kind of strikes it from my options. Hope that I’m wrong with this, and its just a west coast thing, but I’m gonna air on the side of caution here.
And finally, we are only getting through our second state, and the looming job search is starting to get to me. Having this buffer has been very nice, but the funds are already beginning to dwindle on my end, and the ability to build them back up is beginning to be singled out as full time employment, depressingly enough. I wish I could just graduate from college again when I get back to Mass after this trip, sure could use a few more of those graduation checks that don’t require putting in 40+ hour weeks. If anyone has any ideas for solutions to this problem, I am more than happy to listen. I could go into the building excitement for Ragbrai, but I think that I’ll leave that for another time and go play my 678th game of Yatzee on the trip to date. So until next time, hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
