Just gonna do a few quick random thoughts here, so here we go
The heat is intense out here in Idaho right now, so intense in fact that we decided to take the day off for Dad’s safety. An Irish-American like myself is not meant for this heat, give me soft day after soft day instead, I would much rather a month of rain than 110+ degree days. At least you can be outside on a rainy day.
We used the day off to see Transformers at a local movie theater. Pretty great flick in my opinion. Lots of action, some humor, great graphics, overall a very enjoyable experience. I don’t remember too much of the cartoon as a youngster, but it was still enough of a throw back that it brought a few good memories up, especially with the old school 80s sound effects. They had been a subject of a very dorky debate between my brother and I, which I think I won, more of an E-E-A-OO-A type sound. You know what I’m talking about.
We’ll soon be in Wyoming. Trilling stuff. Can’t really wait to get over the Rockies, because the Northwest isn’t all that thrilling. The mid-west, with Chicago, Ohio, Ragbrai in Iowa, it all just seems a bit more exciting than the nothingness up here. Or maybe Wyoming will prove me wrong, but Idaho has sure proven to be a boring state. Glad I grew up in the Northeast, for the general excitement in addition to the love of sports that it has fostered in me.
And in regards to that love of sport, I’m about to go off on them now, so for those who aren’t interested, sorry…
On a Celtics note, I’m cautiously optimistic about the draft night trade. If Allen, Pierce, Jefferson, and Rondo all stay healthy, we have enough pieces to compete in the East. Kinda a few big ifs right there, but judging from a talent standpoint, that is some serious talent, and a good mix of youth and experience which had been missing the past few years from the Celtics. That doesn’t even take into effect a healthy Tony Allen, who was really coming on as a player before needlessly blowing his knee. Sucks to lose Delonte and that fifth pick, but for what Ray Allen could provide us when healthy, its worth it. I just keep having an issue seeing Allen, Pierce and Jefferson all healthy. Regardless of whether it works or not, it was good to see Danny Ainge finally move forward from the constant state of rebuilding through youth.
Don’t get to see my fantasy baseball teams all that often, but its shaping up to be a fun season, with a solid lead with a young team in my keeper league, and trades going down in my espn league. Just completed a trade where I acquired David Wright and Hunter Pence for Torii Hunter and Kelvim Escobar. Sucks to give up on hunter considering his contract year performance to date and all, and I’m not sold on Pence keeping this up all year, but to get Wright was huge, and worth a pitcher who’ll get you a good amount of wins in addition to Hunter, especially when you consider last week I had Troy Glaus as my second baseman.
